Description:
As the days grow longer, WCO invites you to experience the rich colors of twilight in a program inspired by sunsets. Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun evokes the dreamlike haze of a summer afternoon, setting the stage for Rebecca Clarke’s passionate Viola Concerto, with soloist Korine Fujiwara. The evening also marks the world premiere of Fujiwara’s own composition, Sunsets Like Childhood for string orchestra, which explores the emotional resonance of the setting sun, a metaphor for the fleeting moments of youth. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Serenade in A minor offers a tender conclusion to this evening of reflection and beauty. Angela Gage, a plein air artist, will translate these musical sunsets into vivid plein air painting.
