Description:

Concluding the In Nature’s Realm series, this program contrasts the majesty of the sea with the grandeur of the mountains. Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes paints a powerful and atmospheric picture of the ocean’s many moods. The consortium premiere of Mountains Upon Mountains, Like Waves Upon Waves, offers a new sonic perspective on nature’s towering landscapes, where the monumental meets the ephemeral. Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, often referred to as his “Beethoven’s Tenth,” serves as a profound exploration of human emotion against the backdrop of nature’s immensity. Plein air artist Christopher Leeper will capture these contrasting elements of sea and mountain through plein air painting, providing a visual companion to the music’s sweeping themes.
